Breaking Radio Silence - Long Overdue Update

Even in the midst of trial, doubt, and stress, God’s faithfulness remains. Our family has been through some hard times recently. Here is an update and another attempt to get back into the blogging community.

It’s been a while.  Forgive me for the length of this post - but I’d love for you to read the whole thing (partly so that you can know how to continue praying for us, and partly because I am posing a question that I’d love your thoughts on at the end.)

Family Update.

The last few months have been quite the roller coaster ride for our family.  Our daughter ended up taking a two-week visit to the hospital, brought on by a stomach virus combined with allergies messing up her system.  Turns out she’s allergic to milk, eggs, and soy.  She ended up with an NG (nasal) feeding tube that was extremely difficult to deal with at first.  We finally got into the routine of all the extra attention she needed when, of course, things decided to change.

The doc’s mentioned that they don’t like to have children go more than three months with an NG tube, and our appointment was fast approaching.  My wife and I were fully expecting that she would need surgery to get a permanent tube placed.  Much to our shock, the appointment came and the doctor decided to take her feeding tube out!  The only catch was that she was getting thrown into deep water and she was either going to sink or swim for the next two weeks.  She’s never been a good eater (one reason for the tube), so we were very concerned.

The first week was a little rough, but at the end of it, things started to look up.  She’s been seeing a speech and an occupational therapist to help her eat better and something they’re having us try seems to be the perfect trick that she needs.  She’s begun to eat better and our days are becoming much less stressful.  Now, the next thing to work on is getting her to calm down for sleep at night.  That, coupled with the business of a new job out of town, has been one major reason for me not blogging.

God is Good

Through all of this, we have learned to truly trust God, even in doubt and pain.  We have learned to not let circumstances determine our emotions.  We have learned that God truly has a plan in place, even if we can’t see it or understand it.

Moving Forward

Because of our daughter’s health issues I’ve had to take a step back from leadership in worship ministry at our church, as well as not blog nearly as much as I used to (hence the obvious lack of posts lately).  I am eager to get back in the blogging community and dive into leadership in worship ministry again.

I have a fantastic new job as a graphic designer that is going really well.  However, I really, really miss doing worship ministry at the church.  My job is a half hour out of town and our family situation is still a bit demanding.  So here’s the question: What are some things I can do to help continue to encourage and build the worship ministry at our church that can take five to ten minutes a day?  I know you don’t know our whole situation - but any thoughts you might have would be helpful.

First of all, dude, praying for you. I’ve missed having you around in all the worship discussion. Praying for God to continue the healing process in your daughter.

Secondly, little things that I do that take 5-10 minutes per day are:
    1. Text team members, ask how there day is going
    2. Pray for the worship ministry and all it’s volunteers on my way to work everyday
    3. Sign up for planningcenteronline.com (this is a awesome tool that i spend one hour a week on planning the entire service out, then it sends stuff out to the team, huge resource)
    4. Go through Pure Praise with some of your team. Awesome book with great discussion. Easy/quick read. Gives you a leadership platform to stand on without a ton of work invested. Just read along and discuss with the team.
    5. Pray some more

I work full time at our church but not for worship. I’m the worship technical director which basically means I oversee sound, lighting, and video for the entire campus. I signed up thinking I would get to write songs and play my guitar on the clock, not so. I love my job and my church but my music ministry happens in segments of 5-10 minutes at a time. I’ve learned to lead in that and God has taught me a lot. Be blessed in your current season.

Sorry for the super long comment. : )

So good to hear an update - you’ve been missed in blogland and at Abiding! We’re continuing to pray for you guys. Know that you’ve been an encouragement to many through this journey. It probably doesn’t seem like it to you but you have been. Just a few suggestions:
    1. Pray. Print out a schedule of everyone on the team and pray for one person each day.
    2. Pick one person a day to write a note to. It doesn’t have to be a long note. Just a card with a short note letting them know you are praying for them and appreciate all they do for the Lord.
    3. Make a point to find one person on Sunday morning and let them know you appreciate the time they give..whether it be worship or whatever.

I guess that’s all I have. Take care! Continue to rest in the arms of Jesus!
