{"id":109,"date":"2007-08-09T09:26:01","date_gmt":"2007-08-09T15:26:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/09\/art-in-worship-where-are-they-going\/"},"modified":"2008-06-18T12:58:08","modified_gmt":"2008-06-18T18:58:08","slug":"art-in-worship-where-are-they-going","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/art-in-worship-where-are-they-going\/","title":{"rendered":"Art in Worship &#8211; Where are they going?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First of all, I apologize for the lack of scheduled posting.\u00a0 I was having some technical difficulties.\u00a0 Onward&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I seem to be sensing a bit of a trend in many churches today (especially smaller churches).\u00a0 The trend is that the artists are leaving.\u00a0 And, sadly, they are ending up in spots that are drowning their faith and getting them into some places they shouldn&#8217;t be going.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been involved in enough theatre groups to know that what goes on in many are not particularly healthy for someone who has left the church and is looking for a place to belong.\u00a0 Before long, people are belonging to smoker&#8217;s circles, drinking parties, and all sorts of relativistic thinking.\u00a0 Why is this?\u00a0 Why do artists find a different community instead of the church?\u00a0 There are a few reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The word I just mentioned above: community, or rather, the lack of it.\u00a0 Many churches have a great community of quilters.\u00a0 Many churches have a great community of people who play sports together.\u00a0 Many churches have a great community of friends.\u00a0 But most churches have no community of artists.\u00a0 The &#8220;secular&#8221; art world is <strong>full<\/strong> of community.\u00a0 In the church, where is the place for photographers?\u00a0 Where is the place for sculptors?\u00a0 Where is the place for dancers?\u00a0 Where is the place for sketchers, painters, graphic designers?<\/li>\n<li>Artists&#8217; minds aren&#8217;t nurtured, directed, and discipled.\u00a0 Because there is rarely an outlet for artists to &#8220;perform&#8221; in the church, there is rarely a place to nurture an artist&#8217;s gift, and rarely a place for a mature Christian artist to disciple a younger one.<\/li>\n<li>Artists aren&#8217;t utilized.
