{"id":139,"date":"2007-11-30T09:27:07","date_gmt":"2007-11-30T15:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/2007\/11\/30\/the-best-christmas-praise-worship-cd-ive-ever-heard\/"},"modified":"2011-03-10T21:16:36","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T03:16:36","slug":"music-review-sovereign-grace-savior-christmas-praise-worship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/music-review-sovereign-grace-savior-christmas-praise-worship\/","title":{"rendered":"The Best Christmas Praise &#038; Worship CD I&#8217;ve Ever Heard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow is December 1st.\u00a0  Hopefully you&#8217;ve been planning for Christmas services already at your church and hopefully you&#8217;ve already incorporated some of the great classic hymns into your services (Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus; O Come, O Come, Emmanuel; Of the Father&#8217;s Love Begotten).<\/p>\n<p>But what of the modern?\u00a0  Where in the world is the depth that we&#8217;ve known in Christmas hymns yet repackacked in a modern style?\u00a0  It&#8217;s all here, in <a title=\"Savior: Celebrating the Mystery of God Become Man\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sovereigngracestore.com\/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=M4185-00-21\">&#8220;Savior: Celebrating the Mystery of God Become Man&#8221; from Sovereign Grace Music.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know I&#8217;ve reviewed this before, but I can&#8217;t stress enough how amazing this project is.\u00a0  Not only is the music singable, it somehow still feels like classic Chritmas music, even though it is a modern project.\u00a0  And although it is all new music, the timeless truths communicated within are brought to life with fantastic new imagery and thoughtful lyrics.<\/p>\n<p>The album opens with a triumphant call to worship in &#8220;Christ the Lord is Born Today:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Death and darkness surely tremble<br \/>\nLight has come to all the people<br \/>\nThe Lion comes to crush the serpent<br \/>\nHe comes a Lamb, a lowly servant<br \/>\nLet the earth rejoice<br \/>\nO come and lift your voices<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From this beginning track, we know that the album will be full of the awe of beholding the newborn King and the triumph that King has brought to us through His death on the Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Often it is hard to wrap our minds around the fact that God took human form to redeem us, and even though the project&#8217;s song &#8220;Glory Be To God&#8221; helps us begin to see that fact a little more clearly,\u00a0  the song still keeps the God that became human who He ultimately is, a God who is infinitely more than we can imagine.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Emptied of His majesty<br \/>\nHe comes in human form<br \/>\nBeing&#8217;s source begins to be<br \/>\nand God is born<br \/>\nAll our griefs He&#8217;ll glady share<br \/>\nAll our sins He&#8221;ll fully bear<br \/>\nHe will cover our disgrace<br \/>\nAnd suffer in our place<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And finally, keeping with the theme of God&#8217;s incarnation, lyrics on &#8220;Sleep, Jesus, Sleep&#8221; that perhaps helps us see for the first time what <a title=\"Bible Gateway | Hebrews 4:14-16\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?book_id=65&amp;chapter=4&amp;verse=14&amp;end_verse=16&amp;version=47&amp;context=context\">&#8220;we do not have a High Priest who is unable sympathise with our weakness&#8221;<\/a> really means:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sleep, newborn King<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll gently sing<br \/>\nYou who reigns forevermore<br \/>\nRuling as the Lord of Lords<br \/>\nYou who never had a need<br \/>\nMust sleep<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This project paints a beautiful picture in a modern, yet classic way of the birth, life, death, resurrection and ultimate victory of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 5px 5px 0;float:left;height:50px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/music-review-sovereign-grace-savior-christmas-praise-worship\/\" send=\"false\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"595\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow is December 1st.\u00a0 Hopefully you&#8217;ve been planning for Christmas services already at your church and hopefully you&#8217;ve already incorporated some of the great classic hymns into your services (Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus; O Come, O Come, Emmanuel; Of the Father&#8217;s Love Begotten).
