{"id":1776,"date":"2011-04-26T09:41:44","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T15:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/?p=1776"},"modified":"2011-04-27T20:55:12","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T02:55:12","slug":"sojourn-music-the-water-and-the-blood-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/sojourn-music-the-water-and-the-blood-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"Outstanding &#038; Amazing &#8211; Sojourn Music Does it Again (The Water and the Blood)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Sojourn CD Release Good Friday 2011-86 by chuck.heeke, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chuckheeke\/5652293297\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5226\/5652293297_b827354af7.jpg\" alt=\"Sojourn CD Release Good Friday 2011-86\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have nothing but immense respect for a <a title=\"Sojourn Music\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sojournmusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">group of musicians, songwriters, and church leaders from a vibrant community of worship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I first heard about them with their <a title=\"Sojourn Music\u2019s \u201cAdvent Songs\u201d\" href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/music-review-sojourn-music-advent-songs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Advent Songs project<\/a> (one of the <a title=\"Sojourn Music\u2019s \u201cAdvent Songs\u201d\" href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/music-review-sojourn-music-advent-songs\/\" target=\"_blank\">best recordings of Christmas music I\u2019ve ever heard<\/a>), then was blown away by the first installment of <a title=\"Over the Grave: The Hymns of Isaac Watts Volume 1 \u2013 Phenomenal Adaptation of Timeless Content\" href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/music-review-over-the-grave-hymns-of-isaac-watts-volume-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Over the Grave \u2013 The Hymns of Isaac Watts<\/a>, am in love with their split EP that was recently released, and now they\u2019ve done it again.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><object width=\"565\" height=\"318\"><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=22837423&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=0&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=00adef&amp;fullscreen=1&amp;autoplay=0&amp;loop=0\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Sojourn Music\u2019s second <a title=\"Sojourn Music on Bandcamp | The Water and the Blood\" href=\"http:\/\/sojournmusic.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-water-and-the-blood\" target=\"_blank\">Isaac Watts installment \u201cThe Water and the Blood\u201d<\/a> is now available and although I don\u2019t actually have a copy yet I know without a doubt from the bits and pieces that I\u2019ve heard that it is a phenomenal collection of music that is a must, not just for worship leaders, but for music-lovers in general.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I love about what they\u2019re doing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Their sound is completely different than anything I\u2019ve ever heard in the typical \u201cworship song\u201d style<\/li>\n<li>The music is innovative, modern, and fresh yet they are using centuries-old lyrics that stand the test of time and communicate deep truth as the words<\/li>\n<li>Their musicianship is stellar AND doctrine is solid and unambiguous<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apart from the fact that their skills at both performing and writing songs are amazing, Sojourn Church\u2019s leaders, musicians, and songwriters are humble people of God who are<a title=\"Sojourn Music | Easter Sunday Liturgy Setlist\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sojournmusic.com\/2011\/04\/psalms-hymns-and-spiritual-songs-easter-sunday-worship-liturgyset-list\/\" target=\"_blank\"> successfully merging ancient and new into a deeply truthful, relevant, and meaningful mode of worship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the overall style of their music might not be a good fit for all congregations (or even all listeners, if you have a narrow musical taste), people with open ears for many styles of music can have a renewed love of music, truth, theology, and poetry by enjoying this new offering and their previous offerings.<\/p>\n<p>And, for you hard-core audiophiles out there, <a title=\"Sojourn Music on Bandcamp | The Water and the Blood\" href=\"http:\/\/sojournmusic.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-water-and-the-blood\" target=\"_blank\">a vinyl copy of The Water and the Blood<\/a> (which includes a digital download, CD version, and more) is available for a limited time.
