{"id":617,"date":"2010-11-11T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-11-11T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/?p=617"},"modified":"2011-03-10T20:39:27","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T02:39:27","slug":"choosing-songs-for-worship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/choosing-songs-for-worship\/","title":{"rendered":"Thursday Training \u2013 Choosing Songs for Worship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Hymns by {Missbee}, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/landofthings\/4267166109\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Hymns\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2686\/4267166109_80e9f889e5.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of a Hymnal\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Do you have a process that you utilize to chose the songs and hymns you use for a worship gathering? \u00a0Or is your decision-making arbitrary or based on the fact that you just &#8220;like the songs?&#8221; \u00a0<strong>It&#8217;s very important to have solid reasons for choosing the songs that you choose.<\/strong> Here is my process:<\/p>\n<h3>First and foremost: Is God, in all of His nature, revealed clearly?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The most important criteria when choosing a selection of songs is that God is represented clearly and accurately.<\/strong> This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>His grace<\/strong> (He has offered this help to us freely)<\/li>\n<li><strong>His wrath<\/strong> (songs we pick must help drive home the point that we are sinners in need of His help)<\/li>\n<li><strong>His triune nature<\/strong> (try to make sure the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are represented)<\/li>\n<li><strong>His attributes<\/strong> (we obviously can&#8217;t mention every single one of His attributes in song every gathering, but songs must clearly show one or more of them)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Are the Songs Singable?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Is the key appropriate<\/strong> and attainable for the average singer?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do the rhythms work well<\/strong> in your congregation&#8217;s demographic?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Would the lyrics take too much time to explain<\/strong> or are they self-explanatory?
