{"id":68,"date":"2007-03-27T18:48:52","date_gmt":"2007-03-28T00:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/?p=68"},"modified":"2011-03-12T20:02:46","modified_gmt":"2011-03-13T02:02:46","slug":"piano-playing-vs-keyboard-playing-follow-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/piano-playing-vs-keyboard-playing-follow-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday Training &#8211; Piano Playing vs. Keyboard Playing Follow Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, I blogged about <a title=\"Tuesday Training \u2013 Piano Playing vs. Keyboard Playing\" href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/piano-playing-vs-keyboard-playing\/\" target=\"_blank\">the difference between piano playing and keyboard playing<\/a>. \u00a0I had mentioned that I would tell you why it was important to know the difference and ways that you can make the switch.<\/p>\n<p>First, <strong>why it&#8217;s important<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The lyrical content of songs for worship should always be the most important element<\/strong>. \u00a0Learning to play more of a keyboard style helps let the singers come through and the music become secondary.<\/li>\n<li>That being said, <strong>style of music is also important<\/strong>. \u00a0It is important to be able to not make a modern song sound like a classical piece.<\/li>\n<li>If you are part of a full band, keyboard playing helps create texture. \u00a0Too much piano playing makes the mix muddy. \u00a0You can play fills in the cracks where there are no lyrics, but texture is key.<\/li>\n<li>Keyboards are much more portable than pianos. \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, <strong>how do you learn how to do these things<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find someone who knows how and listen to them.<\/li>\n<li>Practice.<\/li>\n<li>Listen to the keyboard part on any recording you hear.<\/li>\n<li>Practice.<\/li>\n<li>Learn <a title=\"Practical Music Theory Tips #1 \u2013 Basic Triads\" href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/practical-music-theory-tips-1-basic-triads\/\" target=\"_blank\">music theory<\/a>, and <a title=\"Music Theory for Worship: How to Read a Lead Sheet (Building Chords)\" href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/music-theory-for-worship-how-to-read-a-lead-sheet-building-chords\/\" target=\"_blank\">learn how to build chords and play off of a lead sheet<\/a>. \u00a0<a title=\"Ricci Adams' Musictheory.net\" href=\"http:\/\/www.musictheory.net\">This site<\/a> is a great resource for learning music theory.<\/li>\n<li>Practice.<\/li>\n<li>Find resources that can help you develop your skills. \u00a0Paul Baloche&#8217;s <a title=\"leadworship.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.leadworship.com\">leadworship.com<\/a> is an excellent one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>It is so important to know the difference between piano playing and keyboard playing, and to know when to appropriately use each skill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 5px 5px 0;float:left;height:50px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/piano-playing-vs-keyboard-playing-follow-up\/\" send=\"false\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"595\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, I blogged about the difference between piano playing and keyboard playing. \u00a0I had mentioned that I would tell you why it was important to know the difference and ways that you can make the switch.
