{"id":69,"date":"2007-03-28T20:37:01","date_gmt":"2007-03-29T02:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/?p=69"},"modified":"2011-03-10T21:23:02","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T03:23:02","slug":"selflessness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/selflessness\/","title":{"rendered":"How to be an Offering &#8211; Selflessness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We live in a culture that is dominated by self. \u00a0We hear phrases like, &#8220;You deserve better,&#8221; or &#8220;You deserve the best.&#8221; \u00a0Our kids are taught to have high self-esteem. \u00a0Our culture is encouraged to have the newest car, biggest house, newest technology; you name it. \u00a0But <strong>this is contradictory to what God teaches us.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>God teaches us that we should become <strong>last in order to be first <\/strong>(Matthew 10:12), and that we should consider others as <strong>better than ourselves<\/strong> (Philippians 2).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Then why are we constantly frustrated that we aren&#8217;t being recognized for the work that we&#8217;re doing? \u00a0<strong>Shouldn&#8217;t Jesus be lifted higher than ourselves?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Why are we constantly grasping our money in our bank accounts? \u00a0If we have change in our pockets, we are among the wealthiest people in the world. \u00a0<strong>Shouldn&#8217;t we be helping those who are far less fortunate than we are?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Why are we constantly finding ways to blame others for hurting us, when maybe we are too proud to admit that we are the ones who won&#8217;t let go of a grudge? \u00a0<strong>Shouldn&#8217;t we be finding every way possible to serve everyone we come in contact with?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Offering something that you want to get rid of is easy. \u00a0It&#8217;s like giving those old clothes away to Goodwill. \u00a0<strong>Being an offering<\/strong> is hard. \u00a0Offering your entire life, your very best, your very self for the cause of Jesus is hard. \u00a0But it&#8217;s what we need to learn to do. \u00a0I pray that I can be an example, and be completely selfless, <strong>so that Jesus will be lifted higher and higher.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When we become selfless, we stop seeing ourselves, and start to see the needs of others, and it is tremendously eye-opening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 5px 5px 0;float:left;height:50px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/iamanoffering.com\/blog\/selflessness\/\" send=\"false\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"595\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We live in a culture that is dominated by self. \u00a0We hear phrases like, &#8220;You deserve better,&#8221; or &#8220;You deserve the best.&#8221; \u00a0Our kids are taught to have high self-esteem. \u00a0Our culture is encouraged to have the newest car, biggest house, newest technology; you name it. \u00a0But this is contradictory to what God teaches us.
